ARTIST STATEMENT

Curious about my personal history, I create and explore photographs, text and other imagery connected to my genealogy. I accumulate and subtract to explore what is present and what is past in my life but is often unrecognized. Stories from our pasts are often neglected; we fail to observe the connections of current experiences and memories that can lead to a stronger self-awareness by overlaying the past upon the present. Making photographs that transform into objects, I am recalling my past and absorbing my sources in a distinctive way through my camera, conversation, and physical assembly. The art objects I creates transcend the individual photograph to allude to my source, my past as overlaid upon the present.
